A turning point
Sadly, Bronwyn's mum passed away a couple of weeks ago. She was fine at Ross's funeral in December, but later in the year she started declining, and it was quicker than anyone had expected. But she passed away quietly, in the very same hospital room that Ross had been in just days before he passed. And buried in the same plot.

She was born in Coventry in the middle or world war two. Coventry was getting heavily targeted for its aircraft and automotive industry, so they were evacuated to Bradford for a few years. A few years later they returned, and Janet worked in the same company that I had been in. She would often ask me about it, but of course I was there 20 years after she left. But I knew many of the streets and places. She moved out to New Zealand as a computer operator, and met Ross at a dance. He took her home. Famously, his pick up line was "My car has a heater".

Bronwyn came back to Coventry to stay with Janet's relatives, and I met her at church. We got married just a year later, and Janet came out to visit us. I must have made the right impression, because Bronwyn spotted J❤T&B written on the dust on the window.

Once we came over to New Zealand, we would regularly come over for Sunday lunch, and often for dinner. It because a regular thing; "Tim, help yourself to some more... There Is Pudding". More recently we started joining them at the pub for dinner with their friends after their church service, and then more recently at the RSA. We'd spend long hours at her house, attempting to finish the latest jigsaw puzzle.

So it really is the end of an era. I'm not sure where we head from here, but the farm certainly needs a bit of work done to make it profitable. I've already fixed the fence on our half of the farm, so now I'm working towards the other end, hacking tree branches, joining wires and using up far too many staples. The general consensus is to buy in some young calves to fatten up, and cows have a habit of mangling fences. Yesterday, we set fire to a pile of ginger weed. It's an invasive species, and even if you lean it against the fence upside down, it still finds a way to sprout again once it falls back down.

And yes, I got caught up in the big scare about the PHP vulnerability. OK, so there's been no proof of any exploit so far, and it's not an easy thing to achieve. But regardless, things need to be kept up to date just in case. Most of our servers were easy to fix, but two needed a full system upgrade, and one of those needed three. Added to which, the servers holding the latest version were getting overloaded. I started the upgrade at 8pm. By 1am, I finally had two out of three websites working. At 6:45 I resumed for three hours, and got the final one working, plus all the back end mechanisms. Except one, which took another two hours to fix. I had lunch. At 2pm, I checked emails. All quiet. Good. Back to sleep!
